The Screaming Tree

A story told by a story teller. The story teller also has their own story.

The two stories - the one told by the storyteller and the storyteller's story have the same meaning.

The theme of the two stories

  • that what you see is not what is really happening
  • that something normal carries great sacrifice
  • that even in what appears normal a greatness can be hidden
  • that being yourself is a dream for some

The storyteller's story - The Screaming Tree.

This is a fable about a beautiful girl who caused great jealously because of her beauty and kindness. She is transformed into a tree. A tree like any other tree in a small wood.

Her tree though is not like any other tree because the girl is still there. She can hear everything around her. She can see everything around her. She can feel - through her branches and leaves the wind and the sun. She can feel - through her roots the moist and stone ground.

It is those feelings which make her the Screaming Tree.  It all happens when the ground gets cold and the sap runs slow. The pain is immense. Inside the girl/the tree screams, but you cannot hear her screams for she has no voice. You can see her scream because those screams are so strong and she is in so much pain, that her leaves curl up and are shaken of by the tremors caused by her constant screaming. It is only after a great deal of screaming the girl, exhausted collapses into a deep sleep.
